Christmas and New Year waste and recycling dates

From Leeds City Council re waste collections :

The service is only closing on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, with crews operating throughout the rest of the festive period including Sundays, so no-one misses out on their bin being emptied. These date changes will ensure everyone receives their usual number of collections over the festive period, and our hard working staff can have Christmas, Boxing and New Year’s Day off. All collections return to their normal scheduled days from Monday 5th January.

The key message is: collection days will change from Sunday 21st December until Sunday 4th January. All households will receive a leaflet with the new collection dates on, otherwise you can check your bin days online at www.leeds.gov.uk/mybinday or download the Leeds Bins app.

The 8 Household Waste and Recycling Centres will only be closed on the 25th and 26th December and 1st January. Christmas is always our busiest time of year, and we usually see a big increase in cardboard, metal, plastic and glass recycling. However, over half of the contents of the black bin could’ve been recycled in the green bin, at a local recycling centre, recycling bank or even composted at home. Please encourage residents to do their bit to recycle all their festive waste, particularly cardboard boxes, plastics and bottles and jars, as it really does make a difference!
